Ronnie Leach has worked for the City of Stilwell at Carson Park since March of 2023 and really enjoys it. He is assistant manager.

“We take care of facilities, bathrooms, baseball facilities, we mow the fields and pick up trash,” said Leach.

“Anybody who needs assistance we try to help them.”

They add dirt to the baseball field as needed.

He really likes his job.

“We take pride in our work. Everything is for the youth. Adults mostly use the walking trail though,” Leach said.

The tournaments are popular and bring people to the park from across Oklahoma and out of state.

“We have a good time at tournaments. The mayor takes money as people come in. People come from Tahlequah, Westville and Sallisaw, all over Oklahoma and out of state to the tournaments,” he said.

People use the park daily.

“The park is a good resource for everyone,” he said.

Kids are here playing all the time after school. Some come and fish in the ponds, usually the small pond because of snapping turtles in the bigger pond.

“We have new swing sets going up. The ones by the basketball court the concrete still has to dry, it was poured then it rained for four days,” Leach said.

The bathrooms used to be kept open all the time, but people kept tearing them up, Leach said.

“If there is a game the coach will be responsible to lock up,” he said.

The golf course will be used by a lot of people.

“I see people out here hitting balls. The schools will be able to use the

golf course for practice. The Tahlequah golf courses are really busy now,” he said.

Leach grew up in the Rocky Mountain area with parents Mark and Kay Leach.

“Mom grew up at Addilee, so we swam in the creek in the summer,” he said, “Dad is from here.”

His wife Kayla grew up in Westville and works at Physicians Clinic. They have four children: Morgan, 14, Tanner almost 13, Lathon, 8 and Emersyn, 2.

“I like everybody here and I enjoy going places and coming home,” said Leach. “I enjoy being here.”

He grew up playing a lot of ball at the old facility.

“I really am thankful for this new facility. It’s fun for everyone and keeps everybody in shape who uses it.”
